Post-Filing
After your completed FAFSA is received by the federal processor, the processor will produce a Student Aid Report (SAR). Your SAR will show your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
If you file the FAFSA online, you will receive an email from the federal processor which allows you to view your SAR. If not, you will receive a paper SAR: it may take up to four weeks for processing before you receive it.
Generally OSFA will begin processing electronic data from the federal processor in early March and start mailing results at that time. You will receive either an award letter or a request for more information by U.S. mail after the University processes your information received from the federal processor. Your award letter will specify sources of financial aid in absolute dollar amount(s). In compliance with the privacy and confidentiality provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 as revised by the Buckley Amendment, exact amounts of aid cannot be provided over the telephone or by e-mail.
In order to expedite the financial aid process, it is important that you make sure that your permanent and mailing addresses with University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are current and correct at all times, and that you promptly complete and return required forms and provide any additional documentation requested.
Awarding financial aid continues throughout the academic year.
