Student Aid Report (SAR)
After the FAFSA has been processed, the federal processor will send a Student Aid Report (SAR) to you, in the manner which you submitted the application. The SAR explains how the EFC was calculated, an itemization of all aid, as well as whether you have been selected for a process called verification. If you do not have a copy of your SAR you can request a duplicate copy from the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1.800.433.3243.
Review your SAR carefully for accuracy: first check to make sure that University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is listed as one of the schools on the College Release and Certification section. If it is not listed as one of the schools, we will not receive your application data until you make a change on the SAR and re-submit it to the federal processor, or call the federal processor at 800.433.3243.
Confirm our receipt of your SAR information from the federal processor by checking your FAFSA application status on UI-Integrate Self-Service. You must have your NetID and password, and an Enterprise ID and Password to access your account. If you have not received your electronic SAR from the federal processor, neither has the University. We cannot send you an award letter until your FAFSA information has been received and processed. If you have questions about your SAR, please call the federal processor at 800.433.3243.
If you listed our school code on your FAFSA, the SAR information will automatically be sent to us and we will begin processing your aid package. Additional documentation may or may not be required from you in order to process your application: we will contact you if so. Be sure to check with a financial aid administrator if you feel that you have any special circumstances that might affect the amount you and your family are expected to contribute.
Add or Change Institutions on Your SAR
You can add or change which institutions receive your FAFSA information in various ways:
- Go to the FAFSA website (even if you didn't apply online). You can add or change a school code and name, but you will need a PIN to authorize the change.
- Using the DRN (Data Release Number), which is printed on your SAR, you can call the federal processor at 800.433.3243 and request that a school be added or changed. The DRN is only printed on the SAR. It is used like a PIN or signature to authorize the change.
- Make corrections on the paper SAR and return it to the federal processor.
If six institutions are already listed, one of the six will have to be replaced with the new school code number and name.
