Aviation

Students enrolled in the Institute of Aviation are assessed additional costs for each flight course taken. These costs will be added to the student's total Cost of Attendance (COA) and will be considered in the calculation of financial aid eligibility. These additional costs will increase loan eligibility only, not grant or scholarship eligibility. Because there are annual limits to the amount an individual student can borrow through federal or University loan programs, it is possible that the increased cost will need to be covered by the Federal PLUS (Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students) Loan or by borrowing from alternative lenders.

To have these additional costs included in the Cost of Attendance, OSFA must receive the Aviation Flight Course Budget Increase Form.  This form, which is available from the academic advisor at the Institute of Aviation or from the OSFA website, provides cost information on the specific courses the student will be enrolled in.

Student Status

The Professional Pilot Program is a two-year certificate program at UIUC.  Students enrolled in this program who have less than 30 credit hours are considered a freshman and restricted to freshmen loan limits.  Students enrolled in this program who have 30 or more credit hours are considered a sophomore and restricted to sophomore loan limits, regardless of the total number of college credit hours earned.

The Aviation Human Factors program is a bachelor’s degree program at UIUC.  Students enrolled in this program follow the normal undergraduate class levels and federal loan limits based on the total number of college credit hours earned.
