Child of Employee Tuition Waiver
The Child of Employee 50% Tuition Waiver (CETW) is available for eligible undergraduate children of Illinois senior public university employees at the participant schools. Fees and charges other than tuition are not included in this waiver. This waiver may not be used for extramural or correspondence courses.

Employee Eligibility
- You must currently be employed as of the first day of the academic term for which the waiver is requested.
- You must have completed at least seven years in a State Universities Retirement System (SURS)-eligible appointment.
- You must submit the initial application for the waiver by the last day of the semester that the student will be utilizing the waiver.
- Your application is valid for four years as long as you are continuously employed and the student is continuously enrolled at Illinois.
Employees must contact the Human Resources Office or Personnel Office at the employing institution to apply for the waiver and can file using the Net-driven Employee Self-Service and Information Environment (NESSIE). If the student attends another Illinois four year public University, an additional application may be required.
Student Eligibility
- Your parent (eligible state employee) must contact the Human Resources Office or Personnel Office at the employing institution to apply for the waiver.
- You must complete the Benefit Utilization Record (BUR) Form each academic year.
- You must be the natural, adopted, or step-child of the University employee.
- You must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree-seeking program at one of the institutions listed above.
- You must be under the age of 25.
